Welcome to the Whitsundays
A message from the Mayor...The Whitsundays is one of the world's most desirable destinations. |
It is the major gateway to the magical Great Barrier Reef and more than 500,000 tourists flock to the region each year to wonder at what nature bestowed on it. Increasingly, people from all over the world are seeking to make their home here - lured by the charms of a tropical lifestyle. Go Back
While you are in the Whitsundays, take time to have a look around - on and off the water. During your stay in the Whitsundays you will no doubt become familiar with just some of the 74 idyllic islands, some with world class island resorts, and great relaxed atmosphere (and of course, the vibrant night life) of Airlie Beach.
Take some time to enjoy the wonderful sunshine at our very own Airlie Beach Lagoon. You may also like to take time to explore the mainland. More than half of the Shire is national parkland, providing a vital life support system for ancient rainforests and exotic wildlife. Proserpine, 20 kms south west of Airlie Beach offers all the charm of a quiet country town.
In Proserpine, pick up your fishing supplies and head out to Lake Proserpine, located 20 kms west of Proserpine, where you can experience the thrill of catching a big Barra or two! Fortunately, the Whitsundays' future as a protected environment is assured. Council is committed to the preservation and enhancement of the region's cosmopolitan, relaxed, leisure-based lifestyle.
As Mayor I welcome you, your family and friends to visit the Whitsundays and extend an invitation to enjoy all that the Whitsundays has to offer. I can assure you that with the variety of activities on offer combined with the spectacular panorama of the Whitsundays your visit will be an enjoyable and memorable one.
Mario Demartini Mayor of The Whitsundays
